(1951-2023) US playwright and author, most of whose work was nonfantastic, though the disruptions of familial emplacedness that featured throughout her work continued to structure her late work, the exercises in planet-facing Fantastika that started with the very Near Future Weather Woman sequence beginning with Weather Woman (2018). The protagonist of the tale discovers that, at a time of crisis due to accelerating Climate Change, she has acquired a form of psychic Weather Control (see also Gaia), and must decide how she may best assist in the healing of the world: how, for instance, she can affect the fires now destroying Los Angeles (see California). In the end, she takes a family-like group to northern New England, where she hopes to pass on her salvational Psi Power. A singleton, Unleashed (2022), tracks another family's attempts to cope with California as it burns down around them. [JC]
