GigaNotoSaurus

Entry updated 14 October 2019. Tagged: Publication.

US monthly downloadable Online Magazine produced since November 2010, initially by Ann Leckie, St Louis, Missouri; subsequent editors were Rashida J Smith from October 2013, Elora Gatts from December 2018, and LaShawn M Wanak from August 2019.

Although it calls itself a Webzine, GigaNotoSaurus is not a magazine in the formal sense as it publishes only one story per month; but these are often longer than found in most online magazines, up to 25,000 words, and it is a paying market. It runs both science fiction and fantasy and seeks to maintain high standards. Two stories from its first year were nominated for the Nebula award: "The Migratory Pattern of Dancers" (July 2011) by Katherine Sparrow, about genetically modified performers, and "Sauerkraut Station" (November 2011) by Ferrett Steinmetz, a charming story about family life on a Space Station. It has proved to be a regular market for women writers, contributors including Angela Ambroz, Silvia Moreno-Garcia, Ruth Nestvold, Cat Rambo, Patricia Russo and the Malaysian writer Zen Cho. GigaNotoSaurus is a good example of keeping things simple and doing them right. [MA]
