(1957- ) US screenwriter and author, mostly of nonfantastic thrillers, including the long Jonathan Grave sequence beginning with No Mercy (2009) [series not listed below]. He is of sf interest for the first instalment of the projected Virginia Emerson sequence, Crimson Phoenix (2021), which provides at first a Technothriller-inflected conspectus of World War Three, triggered by Iran's pre-emptive nuclear strike against an Israel about to launch its own missiles. The tale then focuses on the decimated American government (the president and vice-president and many other have been killed) in the immediate Post-Holocaust period; a West Virginian politician, barred from shelter, combats a Survivalist gang leader with the help of her children, and looks uncertainly futurewards. A sequel is mooted. [JC]
