Pseudonym of UK author Domenica de Rosa (1963- ) UK author, active from before 2010, author of at least three series of crime novels beginning with The Crossing Places (2009), the first of fifteen titles in the Ruth Galloway series, whose protagonist is a forensic archaeologist [titles in her crime series are not listed in Checklist below]. Griffiths is of sf interest for the Ali Dawson sequence beginning with The Frozen People (2025), whose prime setting is initially 2023, where – a fact just short of designating the series as set in an Alternate World – the Department of Logistics, in its mission to solve cold cases, secretly sends operatives by Time Travel to the period of where a serious crime has occurred. The narrative line of The Frozen People shuttlecocks intricately between 2023 and 1850, with a Victorian murderer making the reverse journey. This book received the 2026 UK Theakston Old Peculier Crime Novel award, not normally presented to work with sf content.
A notably competent teller of stories, Griffiths avoids thinning the worlds of her tale through excessive, inevitably reality-sapping journeys. [JC]
