(1951- ) Scottish translator, in Denmark for some time, most of her translations being from Danish to English. She is of sf interest for her meticulous, seemingly transparent renderings of two authors in particular, both of them conspicuous for quiet but implication-dense styles whose seeming impassivity is in fact electric, beginning with Peter Høeg's De maske egnede (1993; trans as Borderliners 1994) and others. Her translation of Solvej Balle's Om udregning af rumfang (2020-current), an sf novel projected to be completed in seven volumes, begins with On the Calculation of Volume I (2024). [JC/DRL]
