Working name of the acclaimed and versatile Malawian author Wisdom C Kamkondo (1957-2006), who studied sociology, literature and linguistics in Malawi and Wales, and was later a lecturer at the University of Malawi. He also worked as a consultant for the World Bank, USAid, etc. In 1995 he came to the US on a Fullbright scholarship to study at Michigan State University, but did not complete his studies owing to illness. Versatile, and acclaimed during his lifetime, he wrote numerous short stories and dramas, often broadcast. He is best known for his short stories and novels aimed at Young Adults, one of which is a fairy-tale novelette with sf motifs (see UFOs): The Flying Saucer (1989) [JO]
