(circa1990- ) Australian editor, academic and author, in UK from early years, who began publishing work of genre interest with Sand (13 October 2021 Tor.com; 2021 ebook). Her first novel, The Forest on the Edge of Time (2026), engages in the complex consequences of Time Travel through the efforts of its distant-Near Future protagonist, who inhabits a world devastated by Climate Change, to rewrite the self-harm of history as we know it through her counterpart in ancient Athens. A third protagonist, in contemporary UK, who is suffering a derangement in her sense of the nature of time, serves to fill out Kirkbride's clear sense that the water margins of the world in which we now live (see Fantastika) require astute navigation.
