Joint pseudonym of Thomas M Disch and John T Sladek for a gothic novel, The House that Fear Built (1966); of Sladek alone for another, The Castle and the Key (1967); and – with the variant spelling Cassandra Nye – of Charles Naylor for a third, Steps to the Grotto (1974). The name is also given to an invented psychic described as "the American author of horrific gothic novels" in Sladek's astrological spoof Arachne Rising: The Thirteenth Sign of the Zodiac (1977) as by James Vogh, while Disch's Echo Round His Bones (December 1966-January 1967 New Worlds; 1967) features a predictive military Computer named CASS-9.
