Lathe of Heaven

US band formed in Brooklyn, New York, named after the novel The Lathe of Heaven (1971) by Ursula K Le Guin. Many of their songs are inspired by written sf: for their second album Aurora (2025), they cite Le Guin, Octavia E Butler, Greg Egan and Peter Watts as direct sources for their lyrics, which cover such classic sf themes as a Dystopian future and nuclear fallout on the title track, and transferring consciousness into a new body (see Identity Transfer) on "Exodus". Musically they are in thrall to 1980s post-punk bands such as Echo and the Bunnymen and The Cure. [CWa]
