(? - ) Australian author and editor who with Jay Lake co-edited the highly praised Polyphony series of Slipstream Original Anthologies which began with Polyphony 1 (anth 2002) and ran to six volumes [see Checklist below]. A seventh in the sequence, co-edited with Forrest Aguirre, was announced in 2010 and the table of contents released – including stories by Jerry Oltion, Howard Waldrop and George Zebrowski – but this apparently failed to attract enough pre-orders for publication to proceed. Layne has also published fiction with "Hooked on a Feeling" in Flytrap for November 2004. Again with Aguirre, she co-edited the one-off original anthology The Nine Muses (anth 2005). [DRL]
