Lolina

Entry updated 16 April 2024. Tagged: Music, People.

Pseudonym used for some recordings and performances by Russian electronic musician and vocalist Alina Astrova (?   -    ), based in the UK from the age of 17, who has also recorded as Inga Copeland and as part of the duo Hype Williams. Her sf project Unrecognisable (2024) takes several forms. Set in a future "where buildings are being used as weapons in a war between the government and the people", it tells the story of resistance members Paris and Geneva, who plan to take over The Shard in London, which is under government control, and blow it up. Paris has second thoughts due to the number of civilian casualties this would cause, and has to fight against members of her organization who want to go ahead with the plan. The initial chapter was an online Comic with art and soundtrack by Lolina. She continued with live performances in which she improvised further developments in the story, and then an album in which she electronically modified her voice to play all parts, alongside a minimal but very effective Casio keyboard soundscape to form short, club music oriented songs. The project is ongoing. [CWa]
