(1988-    ) US author whose Shatter Me sequence of Young Adult Near Future Dystopian tales, beginning with Shatter Me (2011), combines coming-of-age romance with a not unfamiliar depiction of an America gone savagely wrong. The young protagonist, cursed/blessed with a Psi Power through which she is capable of painfully draining the psychic energy of others at a touch, escapes the coercive asylum she's been trapped in (see Prisons), but at a cost of becoming a government Torturer. Romance and intrigue and rebellion intermixingly ensue. The Furthermore sequence beginning with Furthermore (2016) is fantasy, as is the Woven Kingdom sequence beginning with This Woven Kingdom (2022). [JC]
