Mavor, Elinor

Entry updated 9 March 2026. Tagged: Artist, Author, Editor.

(1936-    ) US author, editor and illustrator who in the wake of Ted White's resignation edited Amazing Stories from May 1979 to September 1982 (seventeen issues) and the sister magazine Fantastic from April 1979 to October 1980 (seven issues), using the pseudonym Omar Gohagen for her first six issues of Amazing and all her issues of Fantastic. During this period she also contributed to both magazines with nonfiction (including author appreciations and book reviews), interior art and cover art (five covers in all). Mavor was the final editor of the two magazines for Ultimate Publishing; her last issue of Amazing (September 1982) was the first from Dragon Publishing, where despite a notably competent editorial run at the budget-starved Ultimate Publishing she was immediately succeeded by George Scithers. Her son Scott Mavor also produced one Amazing cover and a number of interiors for both magazines 1979-1980.

Mavor's memoir of her time as editor appeared alongside pieces by other past editors in a "90 Years of 'Amazing Stories'" symposium in the Fanzine The Pulpster #25 (July 2016) edited by William Lampkin. [DRL]
