(1973- ) US stage magician and author, probably best known in the former capacity; his fiction is various, some of it comprising nonfantastic thrillers [not listed below]. He is of sf interest for three series: the Chronological Man sequence beginning with The Chronological Man: The Monster in the Mist (2011 ebook), adventures in Steampunk-inflected venues; the Station Breaker sequence beginning with Station Breaker (2016), comprising Near-Future adventures set in near space, where problems need solving; and the more complexly engaging Theo Cray and Jessica Blackwood sequence beginning with Mastermind: A Theo Cray and Jessica Blackwood Thriller (2021). It features a Computer-trained biologist and an ex-magician but now an FBI agent who must in the first volume confront a serial killer whose control over planetary Communications, and his ability to black-out cities like New York, seems threatening. In the second instalment, The Final Equinox: A Theo Cray and Jessica Blackwood Thriller (2022), which involves a SETI project, hints of a Time Abyss must be followed down. Earlier novels featuring Blackwood alone, which hint at supernatural outcomes, are not listed below. [JC]
