(1985- ) UK author whose first six novels are nonfantastic; the lawyer protagonist of her seventh, Wrong Place Wrong Time (2022), experiences the trauma of seeing her son kill an apparent stranger in front of her eyes, and – because of the depth of the experience, and "hysterical strength" of her need to save her son – finds herself afflicted or blessed by Time in Reverse transformations. Each day she awakens into an earlier world (see also Time Travel), each new/old time having some bearing on the murder mystery that has triggered her. Though the underlying sf engine is unexplained, its effects are treated as multiply consequential upon a real Multiverse; as with Groundhog Day (1993), which is cited in the text, the protagonist of the Godgame which she must solve is her own Secret Master, though the plot focuses more on the discovery of a saving Jonbar Point than in the personal growth experience expected in a family romance.
