Miller, Miranda
Entry updated 12 September 2022. Tagged: Author.
(1950- ) UK author whose early work, like Under the Rainbow (1978), was published as by Miranda Hyman. Her sf Dystopia, Smiles and the Millennium (1987) as Miller, depicts a fiercely uncongenial Near-Future UK where class differences have hardened, the poor are downtrodden, and the Isle of Man has seceded; on the other hand, the protagonist of Nina in Utopia (2010), after Time Travel from nineteenth-century to twenty-first century London, discovers that the clean, consumer-oriented modern world is a Utopia. Loving Mephistopheles (2007) is fantasy, about a kind of Pact with the Devil [see The Encyclopedia of Fantasy under links below]. [JC]
