(1911-1974) US artist, museum curator and Pulp author who wrote over forty sf and fantasy stories, an early Fanzine example being "A Dero Named Clarence" in the Mullen-edited The Gorgon for March 1947. Many of these stories were Space Opera, often appearing in Planet Stories, until 1959 when he fell silent. His three books, from Small Presses, are Kinsmen of the Dragon (1951), which pits the hero against a secret society whose magical science has roots in a Parallel World which, being Under the Sea, is accessible by submarine; Sphinx Child (1948 chap), a fantasy short story; and Moonfoam and Sorceries (coll 1948), a mixture of short stories and poems. The latter two titles were published by presses either owned or dominated by Mullen; Kinsmen of the Dragon (a novel which received severe critical treatment from both James Blish and Damon Knight) had been announced by his Gorgon Press but was released by Shasta Publishers.
