(1960-    ) Norwegian musician, professional footballer (long retired) and author, who does not normally spell Nesbø for publication with the diacritical. He is known primarily for his nonfantastic Harry Hole sequence of nonfantastic policiers beginning with Flaggermusmannen (1997; trans Don Bartlett as The Bat 2012); the series [not listed in Checklist below] has reached at least twelve volumes. Nesbo is initially of sf interest for the Doctor Proctor sequence for the younger Young Adult market beginning with Doktor Proktors prompepulver (2007; trans Tara Chace as Doctor Proctor's Fart Powder 2010), the doctor being a combination of amateur Mad Scientist and genuine creator of potentially world-changing Inventions, the powder introduced in the first tale, which can propel users into space, being typical.

Nesbo is initially of adult sf interest for the original concept and co-creation credit for the Television series Okkupert [simultaneously released as Occupied] (2015-2019), a Near Future political thriller set in a Norway where calamitous Climate Change has triggered a cessation of fossil fuel production, an event which inspires EU-backed Invasion by Russia in order to restore supplies. Also of sf interest are several of the stories assembled in Sjalusimannen og andre fortellinger (coll 2021; trans Robert Ferguson as The Jealousy Man and Other Stories 2021), the most weighty of these being "Rat Island", a novella set at the top of a skyscraper in a large unnamed City, where an exemplary crew of survivors of a not unfamiliar Pandemic-ridden Near Future world attempt to stay alive.
