Olney, Ross R
Entry updated 7 October 2022. Tagged: Editor.
(1929- ) US author, anthologist and newspaper reporter and columnist who has published over 180 books in his career, mostly nonfiction on various subjects for juvenile audiences, ranging from automobiles to Space Flight. Olney is of some sf interest for a reprint Anthology aimed at teenage readers, Tales of Time and Space (anth 1969). This contains stories by Poul Anderson, Fredric Brown, Jack Finney, Robert Silverberg and others. Olney also edited the Horror anthology Ten Tales Calculated to Give You Shudders (anth 1972), including tales by Robert Bloch, Carl Jacobi, William Hope Hodgson, Frank Belknap Long and H G Wells. Though assembling stories which are now widely familiar, both selections served in their day as useful entry-level works for a Young Adult audience. [GSt/DRL]
