Palumbo, Suzan

Entry updated 3 February 2025. Tagged: Author.

(?   -    ) Trinidadian teacher and author, in Canada from before 2018, who began to publish work of genre interest with "Bloody Therapy" in Diabolical Plots for March 2017, releasing about half of this early output as Skin Thief (coll 2023). The protagonist of her first novel, Countess (2024), is a migrant from Earth to the Æcerbot Empire who skyhooks herself upwards in its military hierarchy through ability; that she is gay (see Gender; Sex) undamagingly complicates her career. She is soon, however, cast unjustly in Prison by her enemies, and echoes of Alexandre Dumas's The Count of Monte-Cristo (1844-1845), as prefigured in the title, pace the remainder of the tale. [JC]
