(1952- ) US author and editor, trained in psychology, who began to publish fiction of genre interest with the Monster tale "Fisherman's Log" in Nightmares (anth 1979) edited by Charles L Grant; several more stories followed but no collection has appeared. Pautz was long active in Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association, serving as that body's executive secretary from 1976 to 1998 (1976-1978 jointly with Charles L Grant). With Kathryn Cramer he co-edited The Architecture of Fear (anth 1987), an Original Anthology – albeit with two reprints – of architecturally themed Horror stories whose contributors include Robert Aickman, Michael Bishop, Dean R Koontz, Joyce Carol Oates and Gene Wolfe; this won a World Fantasy Award as best anthology.
