Poltergeist [magazine]

Entry updated 26 January 2026. Tagged: Publication.

Polish online Fantastika portal founded in 2000, the largest of its kind in Poland. It traces its roots to a single-issue print Magazine of the same name, published in Toruń. Initially, the portal's focus was on Role Playing Games (filling the gap made by the closure of the Polish magazine Magia i Miecz), but quickly expanded to encompass literature, Comics, Cinema, Television, Board Games, Card Games, Wargames and Videogames. Major redesigns followed in 2001, 2006, 2009, and 2013. Its editors included Tomasz Dzierżek, Maciej Dzierżek, Rafał Błaszczak, Przemysław Prekurat, Maciej Reputakowski, and Jan Popieluch.

Poltergeist built a broad, collaborative infrastructure for Polish genre fans. Beyond reviews and articles (some written by staff, many user-submitted and rewarded with the site's internal currency – sztons), it hosts a major forum, blogs, and organizes events such as the Polterświęta gift exchange and, from 2007 to 2014, the in-person Zlot Poltergeista ["Poltergeist Rally"] Convention. In its early years, it received national recognition from mainstream Polish magazines: Wprost in 2003 and Playboy Polska in 2005. [PKo]
