Working name of US author Richard Rein Smith (1930-2013), who also wrote as by Damon Castle, Dan Elliott, Richard R Smith, Ann Taylor and Diana Tower; he began to publish work of genre interest with "Top Secret Boomerang" in Fantastic Universe for September 1954. He may have written several sf novels under various not yet identified pseudonyms; those confirmed include the erotic Door of Desire (1964; vt Sex Machine undated as by Dan Elliott) as by Ann Taylor, in which the Receptor, an all-senses recording device, is used to provide pornographic playback of Sex experiences; and the sf adventure Starbright (1983) as by Damon Castle. Other work includes Gothics as by Diana Tower. As Reinsmith he wrote The Savage Stars (1981), in which, after their Spaceship crashes on an empty planet, the survivors create a roughshod civilization for themselves (see Colonization of Other Worlds); and a Tarzan Tie, Tarzan and the Tower of Diamonds (1985).
