(? - ) US author of the Across the Universe sequence, beginning with Across the Universe (2011), a Generation Starship tale for the Young Adult market, whose main action occurs about half a century before reaching Alpha Centauri, after a teenage girl awakens early from Cryogenic sleep to find a complexly dysfunctional Pocket Universe environment within the ship, with the population/crew savagely affected by a behaviour-modifying Drug plus Dystopian stresses due to Genetic Engineering. She also finds romance with the young man due eventually to take command of the Godspeed when she reaches her destination. The sequel, A Million Suns (2012), continues and deepens the action within the ship as revelation follows revelation, after the fashion of this sub-genre, but very forcefully told. [JC]
