(1957- ) US academic – professor emeritus of English and gender studies at the University of Arkansas – who began to publish work of genre interest with an essay on Doris Lessing, "The Paradigm of Frankenstein: Reading Canopus in Argos in the Context of Science Fiction by Women" in Extrapolation for Spring 1995. She also contributed a number of book reviews to Fantasy Review beginning with the issue for February 1986. Book-length critical work includes the important sf Gender study A New Species: Gender and Science in Science Fiction (1993), followed by Anne McCaffrey: A Critical Companion (1996), on Anne McCaffrey, and Sexual Generations: "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and Gender (1999), exploring gender issues in Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987-1994). Anne McCaffrey: A Life with Dragons (2007) is an enjoyable biography.
Roberts's one genre novel, Sorenson's Gift (2010), is historical Fantasy involving Time Travel. [DRL]
