(1927-2011) UK radio and television broadcaster – very popular in both media – whose career began with journalism and who published three novels, of which The Conspiracy (1968) is a mannered sf Satire. A worldwide cabal of politicians (including the UK Prime Minister) plans to reduce Overpopulation via contraceptives in the water supply; news of this is leaked to would-be whistleblowers whose counter-plot to expose the truth on UK television fails through general ineptitude.
