(1947- ) US composer, performer, conductor and instrument builder, a pioneer particularly in the field of synthesized music, often using neurological and mathematical patterns to create his work. Future Travel (1982; exp 2024) is a dizzying mix of analogue and interactive digital electronics, taking in minimalism, exotica, rhythmic complexity and cosmic music, with a sparse electronically treated voice enacting conversations between spiritual and technological beings who represent Far Future Evolution on Earth and elsewhere in the galaxy respectively. The cover image of a colourful Rocket blasting off is by the famed poster artist and political activist Gary Grimshaw (1946-2014). Naked Curvature: Four Memories of the Daimon (A Whispered Opera) (2001) is an opera inspired by the mystical writings of William Butler Yeats. [CWa]
