(1972- ) German electronic musician. His engagement with futuristic themes is evident from such album titles as Sex with the Machines (1997), Super Space Model (2006), 62 Minutes on Mars (2011) and Cyberspace Reality (2020), though these are all largely instrumental. AI Space (2022) is an aural attempt to get inside the "minds" of artificial intelligences (see AI), moving from the opening track "Technophobia" to more blissful realms. Robo Pop (2023) at first glace looks more Dystopian, with a cover image of humanoid assembly-line Robots, but the bland lyrics of "Celebrate the Future" dispel this. Apart from some ambient excursions, Rother's prolific output has rarely deviated from his blend of Kraftwerk-style electro imposed on basic four on the floor beats. [CWa]
