Working name of Scottish professor of astronomy Archibald Edmiston Roy (1924-2012), a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and researcher into the paranormal. His nonfiction was welcomed in 1950s UK SF Magazines, in particular his substantial twelve-part series The Way to the Planets for Authentic Science Fiction (June 1955-May 1956); a few such pieces were collaborations with Donald Malcolm under the joint pseudonym Roy Malcolm (whom see for details). Roy's mostly unremarkable sf adventures, all making use of the Parallel Worlds theme, include Deadlight (1968), The Curtained Sleep (1969) and All Evil Shed Away (1970), the last an Alternate History in which Hitler Wins. Sable Night (1973), The Dark Host (1976) and Devil in the Darkness (1978) are horror. The asteroid 5806 Archieroy was named for him soon after its discovery in 1986. [JC/DRL/DR]
