(1973- ) UK author whose Hitler Wins series, the Burton Cole sequence comprising to date The Afrika Reich (2011) and The Madagaskar Plan (2015), focuses on the Nazi conquest of Africa, and the deportation of all European Jews to Madagascar. The total defeat of the United Kingdom at Dunkirk provides the Jonbar Point for the extended tale; in the early 1950s, a triumphant Hitler and a complaisant Neville Chamberlain share the world between them, after the defeat of Russia (America remains isolationist). The conflict between the series protagonist Cole and Walter Hochberg, the governor of Kongo, echoes at some points in the first volume Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness (February-April 1899 Blackwood's Magazine; 1925); unusually for this genre, The Madagaskar Plan focuses primarily on the fate of the Jews (see Holocaust).
