(1958- ) US historian, playwright and author who began to publish work of genre interest with "The Penis Story" in Things Invisible to See: Gay and Lesbian Tales of Magic Realism (anth 1998) edited by Lawrence Schimel. Most of her early work, including several novels, beginning with her first, The Sophie Horowitz Story (1984), deal with a range of issues, including Feminism, AIDs, often through the use of transgendered protagonists. The Mere Future (2009), a Near Future tale set in a seemingly utopian New York, which is gradually exposed as a Dystopia where the only possible paying occupations relate to the marketing of a commodified world (see Media Landscape): commodities being a term in this context that also designates the human self.
