Šeinius, Ignas
Entry updated 26 April 2021. Tagged: Author.
Pseudonym of Lithuanian diplomat, editor and author Ignas Jurkūnas (1889-1959), in Sweden (initially as a refugee) from 1940, where he wrote as Ignas Scheynius Jurkun. He is of sf interest for Siegfried Immerselbe atsijaunina: romanas (1934; trans Albinus Baranausk as Rejuvenation of Siegfried Immerselbe 1965), in which an Aryan racist undergoes Rejuvenation with the hormones of a Jew, and engages in a course of spiritual rebirth. Given the date of its original publication, the book can be seen as both transgressive (see Race in SF) and groundbreaking (see Politics). [JC]
