(1926-1997) US author who began to publish stories in detective and adventure magazines in late 1956; of some sf interest is the Cold War novelette "Mr. President, Red China Has Orbited a Cobalt Bomb" in Stag for October 1964 as by W J Saber, a Pseudonym he was to use again (once as Warren J Saber). Shanahan contributed a single novel to the Avon Books series of Ties about the adventures of Lee Falk character The Phantom: The Story of the Phantom: The Island of Dogs (1975). [DRL]
