Slant

UK Fanzine (1948-1953) edited from Belfast by Walt Willis. Seven issues, December 1948 to Winter 1952.
Neatly hand-printed on a small letterpress machine, and containing lino-cut illustrations by James White and Bob Shaw, Slant is best remembered for introducing the Irish Fandom of that era – principally Willis, Shaw and White – to sf Fandom at large. It also contained fine pieces of humorous writing by Vince Clarke and others (a tradition continued in its successor Hyphen) and featured fiction by such authors as Kenneth Bulmer, John Brunner, A Bertram Chandler, Chuck Harris and Bob Shaw. In 2004 Slant was voted a Retro Hugo as best fanzine of the year 1953. [PR/DRL]
