Stroud, Allen
Entry updated 2 September 2024. Tagged: Author.
(? - ) UK academic, Videogame writer and author, involved in the creation and marketing of the Massively Multiplayer Online Game Elite Dangerous launched 2014 on the back of previous failed or baulked versions under various names; he wrote one Tie to the game, Elite: Lave Revolution (2014). The Wisimir Tales sequence beginning with The Sword of Wisimir (2012) is fantasy, as is The Forever Man (2017).
Stroud is of most sf interest for the Fractal sequence beginning with Fearless (2020), a moderately distant Near Future Space Opera set mostly on a military Spaceship; its Captain, Ellissa Shann, who has no legs, is deeply integrated with her ship, and from her coign of vantage deals with issues of loyalty between the military command and emergent civilizations on the Moon, on Mars, and elsewhere in the Solar System (see Colonization of Other Worlds; Imperialism). A terrorist attack on a solar-energy centre in Chile complexifies the issues confronted. [JC]
