(1910-2001) UK author, initially of the short Truth in a Tale series for children beginning with Small Creatures (coll 1946 chap). She is of sf interest for Skrine (1960), is set sometime in a depopulated Ruined Earth Britain after World War Three, and describes the hegira of its initially solitary protagonist (see Last Man), who eventually becomes thought of as a healer in the village he arrives at; but conflict with the ruler of the village ends tragically, as is commonly the case with tales told in the mode of the Scientific Romance.
