Pseudonym of Dutch illustrator and author Thijs van Ebbenhorst Tengbergen (1952- ), active since about 1977, much of whose work has been sf for younger children and Young Adult audiences. He began to publish work of genre interest with "Jouw Liefde is Geen Stenen Bloem" ["Your Love Is Not a Stone Flower"] as Thijs van E Tengbergen in the Belgian Fanzine INFO-SFAN for May 1972, professionally reprinted under his full name in Dans in de Ruimte (anth 1977) edited by A van Hageland; his first story to appear in English was "Disslish de Aquamancer" (July/August 1981 Holland SF), trans as "Disslish the Aquamancer" in Terra SF II: The Year's Best European SF (anth 1983) edited by Richard D Nolane. Most of Teng's tales available in translation are assembled as Lovecraft, Mijn Liefste en Andere Sciencefictionverhalen (coll 2009; trans as Lovecraft, My Love 2012 ebook), which contains sf as well as at least one homage to H P Lovecraft. De Jongen van Smaragd (2006; trans as The Emerald Boy 2007) is a Tie to the Dutch MiYu Magic Stones fantasy franchise. Teng has been prolific for many years; for the English-language reader, there may be much to discover. [JC/DRL]
