(1973- ) French musician, filmmaker and video artist, whose work has ranged across experimental rock, improvisation and free jazz, electronic and club music, and large-scale theatrical works. His sequence of albums inspired by Yevgeny Zamiatin's My ["We"] (written 1920, circulated in manuscript; trans Gregory Zilboorg as We 1924; first Russian-language book publication 1952), comprising Camera Police (2010), We (Nous autres) (2012) and Rapport sur le désordre (2016), uses harsh noise, heavily distorted beats and vocodered voices to conjure an oppressive Dystopian atmosphere, rather than attempt to directly adapt the novel. Vigroux continued his fascination with We in 2019, with a Theatre adaptation made in collaboration with pianist Matthew Bourne. [CWa]
