Vivenair, Monsieur

Pseudonym of the unidentified UK author (? -? ) of A Journey Lately Performed through the Air, in an Aerostatic Globe [for full title see Checklist below] (1784 chap), a Proto-Sf Fantastic Voyage by Balloon to the planet Georgium Sidus, which is the name originally given on its 1781 discovery to Uranus (see Outer Planets).Georgium Sidus is in this tale, however, closely resembles the Moon, always showing the same face to the Earth, and relatively nearby. The Satire of the late eighteenth century world, and the court of King George III, is laboriously detailed; in the course of it the Sidusian monarch, King He-he-he Lob Jol-Teredd, uses his access to the Sun's energy to favour his venal courtiers. The tale is ostensibly told by a Frenchman named Vivenair, but is patently English. [JC]
