(1943-2017) UK sf fan and editor, active initially in the 1960s and 1970s. He published the well-regarded critical Fanzine Speculation 1963-1973 (originally titled Zenith), contributed a column to Vector 1966-1968 as by Malcolm Edwards (not to be confused with Malcolm Edwards), organized the three sf Speculation Conferences in Birmingham (1970-1972), was among the founders of Novacon, travelled to the 1974 Worldcon as the TransAtlantic Fan Fund (TAFF) winner, and was an effective Chairman of the 1979 UK Worldcon, Seacon '79. His most notable professional activity was his editorship of the Andromeda sequence of original sf AnthologiesAndromeda 1 (anth 1976), Andromeda 2 (anth 1977) and Andromeda 3 (anth 1978) – which published work by a number of authors including Brian W Aldiss, Harlan Ellison, Fritz Leiber, George R R Martin, Christopher Priest and Bob Shaw.

From 1984, as a foundry owner, Weston was responsible for the production of the Hugo rocket trophies. His autobiographical With Stars in My Eyes: My Adventures in British Fandom (fixup 2004) assembles work previously published in fanzines together with much new material. More recently, from 2006 to 2013, he edited the backward-looking Fanzine Relapse, a retitling of his earlier Prolapse, which focused on the history of British Fandom. For his long-term contributions to Fanzines and Fandom he received the FAAn Award for lifetime achievement in 2015 and entered the First Fandom Hall of Fame in 2024. [PR/DRL]
