(1986- ) US teacher, poet and author whose first novel Ours (2024) takes place mostly in the eponymous quasi-magical Polder (see Utopia; Zone), founded in the 1830s near St Louis, Missouri, initially as a refuge for freed or escaped slaves (see Race in SF). Enemies attempting to reach Ours find themselves disoriented in the surrounding forest [for Into the Woods here and Polder above see The Encyclopedia of Fantasy under links below]. During the Civil War, a continuing character visits the America of a century later via Time Travel; and returns safely. Despite its creation and maintenance by Saint, a woman with occult powers (see Equipoise), the refuge is gradually infiltrated as the decades pass by the March of Progress; by novel's close, its remains are buried under a vast airport.
