(? -? ) Author, very likely pseudonymous, of whom little is known beyond his or her authorship of The Land of the Central Sun (July 1902-January 1903 Argosy; 2016), a Hollow Earth adventure of no great originality. Two young couples on a doomed ship blown off course and trapped in the Arctic ice are rescued by an Antigravity-equipped Airship operated by the mysterious Baron Montavo plus a crew of dwarfs. This marvel of Transportation takes them via a tunnel Under the Sea to a subtropical Lost World inhabited by said highly cultured dwarfs and illuminated by the titular central sun. There are of course Monsters to contend with, including flying crocodiles; some Political upheaval when a caste of militaristic dwarf miners rebels against their king; the blossoming of romance; and an eventual escape via airship to Earth's surface in the region of the equatorial Andes. Overall the tale has a juvenile or Dime-Novel flavour. Nevertheless it had sufficient Retro-Pulp appeal to be serialized a second time in The Fantasy Collector (August 1990-February 1991) and eventually released in book form in the new century. [DRL]
