Collins, Robert A

(1929-2009) US scholar of science fiction who founded the International Conference for the Fantastic in the Arts (1980-current), and edited various critical magazines and anthologies. His first published work was Thomas Burnett Swann: A Brief Critical Biography and Annotated Bibliography (1979 chap) (see Thomas Burnett Swann). The magazines include Fantasy Review (2) for some years from 1981, SFRA Newsletter (1987-1989) and Journal of the Fantastic in the Arts (from 1988). His anthologies are The Scope of the Fantastic [see Checklist for subtitles] (anth 1985 2vols) co-edited with Howard D Pearce, the 1989-1994 sequence Science Fiction and Fantasy Book Review Annual co-edited with Robert Latham, and Modes of the Fantastic [see Checklist for subtitle] (anth 1995), also with Latham. One of the IAFA Awards is named in Collins's honour. [DRL]
