(1870-1951) US author whose career covered at least the first three decades of the twentieth century, probably beginning with the Near Future Atalantis: A Novel (1902), in which a permissive Utopia (and tax haven) has been constructed on an artificial Island in international waters, where private vices are supported. Unfortunately, a Yankee puritan in a state of virtue and sexual arousal (he loves a girl in residence) blows the island to smithereens in 1959. Morrow's best single story is probably "Omega, the Man" (January 1933 Amazing), a Last Man tale; his serial fiction "A Diamond Asteroid" (Winter 1935 Unusual Stories) saw only a single instalment before the magazine folded, and the full story has long seemed lost to history. This and other manuscripts have reportedly been preserved, though not published, by Morrow's descendants. [JC/DRL]
