(? - ) New Zealand author who also writes as Jo Anderton, and who began to publish work of genre interest with "Trail of Dead" in Zombies (anth 2007) edited by Robert N Stephenson; the tale was assembled, along with a considerable proportion of her short fiction, as The Bone Chime Song and Other Stories (coll 2013). Most of her short work has been fantasy and horror, though her first book publications – The Veiled Worlds sequence comprising Debris (2011), Suited (2012) and Guardian (2014) – which is set in a universe whose essential nature is described with Equipoisal balance either in sf terms as an Alternate Cosmos or in fantasy terms as Magic, but whose protagonist Tanyana is for a considerable period immured in a Mecha-like silver suit. The elementary particles of this universe are called "pions", and are manipulable by human minds. A world so manageable will almost certainly be Dystopian in nature (it is), and is unduly likely to suffer from sudden Entropy, perhaps malevolently intended (and does so). An additional sense that this universe is a Virtual Reality of some sort is also enforced; and by the end of the third volume, as Pocket Universes are unveiled to one another, The Veiled Worlds sequence has become intriguingly sf-like.
