(1930-2001) Italian film director and screenwriter whose early productions were the sword-and-sandal movies La rivolta dei pretoriani ["The Revolt of the Praetorian Guard"] (1964) and Il magnifico gladiatore ["The Magnificent Gladiator"] (1964). His first film of genre interest seems to have been the Science Fantasy Super Stooges vs the Wonder Women, which he directed as by Al Bradley and also co-wrote. Later sf examples arguably inspired by the huge success of Star Wars (1977) are Anno zero – Guerra nello spazio (1977; vt Cosmos: War of the Planets; vt War of the Planets; vt Year Zero – War in Space), co-directed as by Al Bradley with Aldo Crudo, the latter as Al Crydo; Battaglie negli spazi stellari (1978; vt Battle of the Stars), again as by Al Bradley; and La guerra dei robot (1978; vt The War of the Robots) directed as by Al Bradly [sic]. None of these low-budget efforts, alas, is of any great distinction as sf Cinema. Some cast members of Anno Zero – Guerra Nello Spazio reappear in Battaglie negli spazi stellari, which also recycles some of the former film's footage. Another Space Opera with Horror elements is La bestia nello spazio ["The Beast in Space"] (1980) directed as by Al Bradley. [DRL]
