Canfield, Grant
Entry updated 3 November 2025. Tagged: Artist.
(1945-2025) US fan and artist active since 1970 with artwork for many Fanzines and Semiprozines, including covers and interior cartoons for the early Locus and Science Fiction Review (see Psychotic), and interiors for Algol and others. He received a 1976 FAAn Award as best humorous artist. Several fine examples of his distinctively bold and vigorous black-and-white style appear as illustrations to Terry Carr's collection Fandom Harvest (coll 1986), for which Canfield also drew a sympathetic cover cartoon of the author. In 1999 he was honoured with the Rotsler Award for lifetime achievement in fanzine art.
Although his career as a commercial artist and cartoonist (Ray Faraday Nelson was at one period his regular gag writer) left him less and less time for Fandom, Canfield continued to publish intermittently in the fanzines until at least 2020. [DRL]
