Rotsler Award

Entry updated 4 December 2023. Tagged: Award, Fan.

Annual juried award for life achievement in Fanzine art, named for William (Bill) Rotsler in his capacity as a much-loved and highly prolific fan artist. Presented since 1998, the award is sponsored by SCIFI, the Southern California Institute for Fan Interests, and is normally announced at the annual Los Angeles Convention Loscon; it currently comes with a $300 honorarium.

The inaugural presentation in 1998 was to Steve Stiles. Following a posthumous award to Arthur Thomson in 2000 it was decided that the Rotsler Award would henceforth go only to living fan artists. In 2011 the judges' choice was the UK fan D West, who declined the award; there was thus no presentation in that year. [DRL]
