(1944-    ) US author and editor who began to publish work of genre interest with "Squatter's Rights" in If for March 1968. Ten more short stories followed at intervals until 2022, with another long announced for the never-published full version of Harlan Ellison's «The Last Dangerous Visions»; of the published tales, perhaps the most notable was "To Plant a Seed" in Orbit 11 (anth 1972) edited by Damon Knight, an ambitious Cosmological treatment of the Stasis Field trope.

Davis has published no genre novels and became best known in sf circles as an anthologist for Baen Books, beginning with the The Best of the Bolos: Their Finest Hour (2010); this assembles various authors' contributions to the Shared World of Keith Laumer's Bolo sequence, including three tales by Laumer himself. It was followed by the Christmas-themed A Cosmic Christmas (anth 2012), its sequel A Cosmic Christmas 2 You (anth 2013) , and many further anthologies [see Checklist below], from 2018 always edited in collaboration with Christopher Ruocchio or others.
