(1987- ) US author, who after an upbringing in Hong Kong resides in the UK; she began to publish work of genre interest with "A Possible Serenity" in Andromeda Spaceways Magazine (see Andromeda Spaceways Inflight Magazine) for June 2018; her first novel, The Book Eaters (2022), is a fantasy focusing on the eponymous Pariah Elite which finds books literally and spiritually nourishing: to eat a book is to feed oneself, and to capture its essence. Dean's second novel, The Girl With a Thousand Faces (2026), is set in the Hong Kong of World War Two and the city in the 1970s, which is haunted by Equipoisal history-impacted ghosts; in the end, the protagonist understands that to live with her own fractured self and to survive in the bad unfoldings of the real world are very similar enterprises.
